"Tried it out at the kids club tonight and they loved it.
I think you've come up with a winner!!, my only concern was was how fast it would drop if the rope was let go of and was pleasantly surprised to discover it was a lovely slow drop,
well I for one will be using it all the time"

"It’s always good to see fresh ways of tackling such a core skill that’s still a weakness in the climbing safety system … if it helps prevent even one dropped climber that’s a positive result"

There had to be a simpler safer way I can teach that keeps everyone safe....

My name is Jordan Rimmington and I am the founder of Belay Balls. I am based down in Cornwall and have been climbing since I was a kid. I am passionate about indoor climbing, and for the past few years I have been instructing new climbers from a range of backgrounds.
Over the years I have seen some concerning belaying at different locations. I am terrified of witnessing a climber fall due to not taking the time to learn the technical skills and commands of belaying. In my experience some beginners pick up belaying a lot slower than others and if they are in a large group with climbers on the wall, it can be a challenging and anxiety inducing experience for all involved.
I felt there must be a simpler approach of teaching belaying that can be used in a big group, where all climbers are removed from the wall for safety and therefore, removing the anxiety of someone getting injured due to a belay accident. That’s when I came up with the idea to use a belaying system.
I found that by using the Belay Balls, as a group, we could all stand in a line, attached to a Belay Ball and go through the process together … repeat, repeat, repeat. If anyone was lagging behind, they could be left to practice safely on their own until they were competent and confident. This prevented there being any holds ups for the rest of the group.
